Grupo Siera Maestra
¡y Son Asi!
Areito/Victor (Japan) 1985

sleeve : NM
media : EX/NM-(side A has two very slightly hairlines that does not affect to sounds.)

Formed in the late 1970s by students who were enthusiasts of son music, the Cuban group Grupo Sierra Maestra released their first album in 1981. Although they were still amateurs at the time, the album conveys a deep love for their country’s musical roots, faithfully inheriting the traditions of Cuban dance music such as son (which flourished in the 1920s and 1930s), yambú and guaguancó (early forms of Cuban rumba), and guaracha (popular in the 1940s). This Japanese edition was released in 1985 as part of Victor’s Modern Cuban Music Collection series, supervised by Toyo Nakamura. It features exceptionally clear sound quality characteristic of Japanese pressings.
