This 1982 album features Argentine guitarist and composer Tomas Gubitsch—born in Buenos Aires—who has performed with modern tango masters such as Astor Piazzolla and Rodolfo Mederos, and was also a supporting member of Luis Alberto Spinetta’s group Invisible. He is joined by Argentine pianist Osvaldo Calo, who also contributed to Piazzolla’s 1977 album Olympia 77 and the 1977 masterpiece by Nito Mestre y Los Desconocidos de Siempre. While faithfully inheriting the traditions of Argentine tango, the album presents a thoroughly refined and essential contemporary tango sound, polished with a modern sensibility. Highly recommended.
