Georges Ivanovich Gurdjieff / Thomas de Hartmann
Wergo Spectrum (Germany) 1982
SM 1035/36 (2LP) gatefold jacket, insert
sleeve : VG(SPSE: 6cm tear on top back / 1cm tear on bottom back / 4cm split on top, corner wear)
media : EX-/EX-,EX-/EX-(slight dust noise / some light dust noise in places)
This 1982 double album features music by Georges Ivanovich Gurdjieff, an Armenian composer, philosopher, and mystic of the 20th century who also worked as a writer and choreographer, and Thomas de Hartmann, a Russian composer, Gurdjieff's student, and collaborator. The pieces are performed by German pianist Herbert Henck, known for his performances of John Cage's "Music of Changes." Indian percussionist Trilok Gurtu participates in one track. The quiet and somewhat melancholic atmosphere is similar to Erik Satie, but Gurdjieff's strong will is reflected in this introspective music, reminiscent of ancient mysteries. The pentatonic scale on side B has a different resonance from Western music.
A1: Hymns from a Great Temple
B1: Journey to Inaccessible Places
