Herbie Mann Plays

Bethlehem Records/Fresh Sound Records (Spain) 1988
FSR-2046 (LP)
sleeve : VG+(wear on corner, light dirts.)

media : EX-/EX-(some light noise caused by slightly hairlines.)

An American flutist who collaborated with numerous artists and groups from the mid-1940s while also leaving behind many masterpieces under his own name, Herbie Mann released this album from Bethlehem in 1956. The quartet features Benny Weeks (g), Keith Hodgson (b), and Lee Rockey (ds), with the standard tunes performed by a different quartet consisting of Joe Puma (g), Whitey Mitchell (b), and Herbie Wasserman (ds). While Mann would later begin exploring world music influences from Africa and Cuba in the late 1950s, this album offers a refined experience of cool jazz with a soft touch. The ballad on track A3, a moody interpretation of a late 1920s standard, is particularly delightful.

A3: Deep Night
B3: A Spring Morning
