Herbie Mann
Muscle Shorls Nitty Gritty
Embryo (US) 1970
SD 526 (LP) Original pressing. Presswell pressing. gatefold sleeve. w/obi.
sleeve : VG+(wear on corner, light dirts.)
media : EX/EX(some slightly noise.)
American flutist Herbie Mann, who collaborated with numerous artists and groups from the mid-1940s onward and released many acclaimed works under his own name, issued this album in 1970 on Embryo. A large roster of musicians took part—including Roy Ayers (vibes), Eddie Hinton (guitar), Barry Beckett (piano), Miroslav Vitous (bass), and Roger Hawkins (drums)—with the lineup changing from track to track. In contrast to the deep, exploratory approach of his previous album Stone Flute, this release ranges from moody, easy-listening tunes characteristic of Mann to groovy jazz-funk. The relaxed, blues-tinged Beatles cover on side B (B2) is also a highlight. This is the original US pressing, complete with the obi that accompanied copies distributed in Japan.
