The Her Werken Trio, formed in Tilburg, the Netherlands, by Sjoerd Rolsma (as, ts), Bert Palinckx (b), and Jan Wirken (ds), released their only album in 1982. They are completely unknown minor jazz musicians, but each of them seems to have been strongly influenced by American musicians such as Ornette Coleman, and this album also features original compositions by the members as well as Ornette Coleman's "Sex Spy" and Charlie Haden's music. The original compositions, such as Rolsma's A4, also show the lineage of Coleman and Don Cherry, from the beautiful theme to the improvisation. Tilburg seemed to have the most active live jazz scene in the Netherlands, and workshops on improvisation were held there.
