Hiromoto Tobisawa & Manabu Ohishi

The third installment of the Sound Museum Series, released in 1986 under the Interface label by Nippon Columbia. This exceptional album was composed and arranged by pianist Manabu Ohishi, a member of the Japanese Brazilian fusion group Spick & Span, and Hiroyuki Tobisawa, who has arranged numerous pop and kayōkyoku songs since the late 1970s. Alongside Ohishi’s piano, the album features performances by Akio Ando (bass), the Tomoda Group (strings), and Yumiko Akiyama (vocals). The entire record showcases an acoustic new-age style with layers of beautiful melodies blending chamber music and jazz. Akiyama’s humming vocals are particularly soothing, making this one of the standout releases in the series. Recommended.
