The Hangarian Quartet, founded in 1935 in Budapest, Hungary, performs works by Bela Bartok, a Hungarian composer whose works reflect his study of Eastern European and North African folk music. The album features "No. 1" and "No. 2" from the six quartets that are said to form the mainstream of Bartok's works during his lifetime. As composer Nao Shibata says in his commentary, "Here we find the splendor of sound, the splendor of tonal contrast, the mastery of counterpoint, the extraordinary inventiveness of melody, the strength of composition, and the whole of Bartok's musical genius". You can experience the mental landscape created by the melody of the strings that fold over each other.
