A very obscure item just in. This is a 1980 release by Singaporean professional harmonica player Ho Chong Wing, who performed both in Singapore and abroad—including a guest appearance at the World Harmonica Contest held in Switzerland in 1970—and whose extraordinary technique so impressed Hohner that the famed maker specially designed and produced a silver harmonica for him. Covering everything from Singaporean folk melodies to film themes, the album offers a beautifully nostalgic set of easy listening throughout, with Ho’s glossy, richly expressive harmonica floating over moody backing by piano, bass, drums, percussion, and steel guitar. Especially lovely are A4, a rendition of the theme from the Japanese film Shina No Yoru, and B2, his version of “Shiretoko Ryojo,” the song written by actor Hisaya Morishige and later made into a major hit in the 1970s by Tokiko Kato.

A2: Theme from ‘Man in the Net’
B1: Dahil Saiyo
