An album released in 1971 by bamboo flute player Watazumido, who established his own style called "Watazumido" with his unique philosophy and playing technique, and was highly praised by Toru Takemitsu and ethnomusicologist Fumio Koizumi. All of Watazumido's works share the goal of unifying tangible and intangible technique and spirit through the act of playing an instrument called the Hōchiku, based on the "practical philosophy" of training the mind and expressing the resulting state. This album includes 8 Dōkyoku (spiritual pieces), including "Shika no Tōne" (Deer's Distant Cry), which is also performed by other sects. The commentary inside the gatefold, which discusses "avant-garde music" and "avant-garde philosophy" in Dōkyoku, is very interesting.
