The debut album by American protest folk singer Holly Near, who has remained active since the early 1970s, released in 1973 on Redwood Records, the independent label she founded herself. Created around the theme of supporting the Vietnamese people during the Vietnam War, the album features pastoral folk songs whose gentle atmosphere and Near’s fresh, clear voice evoke the open landscapes of California, while carrying a strong anti-establishment message beneath the surface. Particularly outstanding are A1 and its reprise B7, performed entirely with voice and chorus and charged with a powerful sense of purpose, as well as the a cappella A3, seemingly sung to an unspecified group of friends or companions.
Deadstock, unplayed copy, opened from its original shrink wrap at our store solely to check the condition. There are some faint paper scuffs on the vinyl caused by the paper inner sleeve, but they have no effect on playback.
