CBS/Sony (Japan) 1975
SOCM 110 (LP) w/obi, insert.
sleeve : NM-(slightly wear on corner.)
media : EX+/EX+(some slightly noise.)
A masterpiece album released in 1975 by the shakuhachi virtuoso Kuniyasu Yamamoto, who left an extraordinary legacy not only in traditional performing arts but also through his contemporary activities. Featuring flutist Akihisa Miyamoto, harpist Kumiko Inoue, and pianist Kōsuke Kanno, the recordings were made that same year at Iino Hall in Tokyo, with all compositions newly written by Yamamoto. A1 is a duet for shakuhachi and flute, A2 is a three-part suite for shakuhachi and harp, and side B is a four-part suite for shakuhachi and piano themed around the four seasons. While faithfully inheriting the Tozan-ryu tradition, Yamamoto’s pioneering approach brings the shakuhachi into entirely new expressive realms, delivering performances full of sharp artistry and innovation.
