This is the eighth release in 1985 in a series of compilations of original compositions by shakuhachi player Hozan Yamamoto, who has made great achievements not only in the classical arts but also in his contemporary activities. Included are A1, which was newly written for this album, A3, which is representative of Kunizan's work in the 1960s, and five other pieces in total. A2, a rhythmic shakuhachi duet that follows "Bamboo" and "Twin Movements," and B1, a polychord piece for shakuhachi, 17 strings, and percussion, conducted by Hozan and featuring koto player Shin Miyashita and percussionist Tomoyuki Okada, are examples of compositions that go far beyond the classical repertoire.
