The late Hozan Yamamoto, a shakuhachi player of the Tozan-School who was awarded the title of Living National Treasure in 2002, had been constantly challenging himself not only with classical music but also with jazz, contemporary music, and avant-garde music. In addition to Katsuya Yokoyama and Shizuo Aoki, who are also members of the Sanbonkai, and other shakuhachi players Kohachiro Miyata, Seizan Ikeda participated in this album, performing solo, duet, and trio pieces. You can feel the progress of Yamamoto's challenge, starting from breaking away from the old classical music, confronting Western musical ideas, and then returning to the harmony with nature that shakuhachi music originally contains. You will be moved not only by his performance but also by the splendor of his composition.
