Released in 1978, this album as a leader is by Jack DeJohnette, one of ECM’s defining drummers. He is joined by an exceptionally strong quartet featuring John Abercrombie on guitar, Lester Bowie on trumpet, and Eddie Gomez on bass. DeJohnette’s spacious drumming provides the foundation for Bowie’s trumpet and Abercrombie’s electric guitar to float freely through the music, creating a wonderfully spiritual atmosphere charged with funkiness. A1 is especially incredible, with Abercrombie’s guitar swirling through the air almost like electronic sound—utterly psychedelic and completely mind-blowing. Throughout the album, the quartet engages in tense, highly responsive interplay, delivering superb contemporary jazz from beginning to end. Original German pressing.
