This album was released in 1980 by New Directions, a group led by American jazz drummer/pianist Jack Dejohenette, who has played on numerous sessions with Miles Davis and Keith Jarrett, and has left many masterpieces on ECM. Recorded live at a concert in Switzerland in 1979, the album features ECM artists such as Lester Bowie (tp), John Abercrombie (g), and Eddie Gomez (b) from the Art Ensemble of Chicago. This is a quartet work. A1 is spiritual Latin jazz with Lester Bowie's ethnic trumpet reminiscent of Don Cherry swaying to Dejohnette's detailed and dynamic drumming, and A2 is cool as it gradually heats up from the first half that floats gently with a low tension. A2 is a thrilling live performance full of tension. The realistic recording is also excellent.
