This is the 1982 album released by the group led by American jazz drummer Jack DeJohnette, known for his work in numerous sessions alongside greats like Miles Davis and Keith Jarrett, and who has also left behind many masterpieces on ECM. The album features accomplished players such as John Purcell (fl, as), Baikida Caroll (tp), Chico Freeman (b-cl, ts), and Rufus Reid (b). It showcases a range of jazz styles, from avant-garde jazz with high tension to contemporary jazz with a gentle groove, as seen in track A2, which evokes the abstract painting-like qualities of Eberhard Weber's contemporary jazz. One particular highlight is the reggae tune on B2, featuring DeJohnette's vocals. Among the many ECM releases, this album stands out as one of the few that explores reggae in such an authentic and compelling manner. Highly recommended.
A2: Ebony
B2: Inflation Blues
