This is the leader album released by the renowned American jazz drummer Jack DeJohnette, hailing from Chicago, who has been active in the forefront since the late 1960s and has participated in an astounding number of sessions, showcasing his exceptional drumming skills on many ECM productions. Released in 1969 on Milestone, this album features a stellar lineup including Stanley Cowell (piano), Bennie Maupin (tenor sax), Miroslav Vitous (bass), Roy Haynes (drums), and Eddie Gomez (bass). The album presents a masterpiece spanning from spiritual modal jazz in the lineage of John Coltrane to deep contemporary jazz, with standout tracks like the remarkable combination of DeJohnette's melodica and Cowell's electric piano on A1, the bass-centric B1 featuring Vitous, and the organic dance of Maupin's wood flute on B3. This US pressing was released as part of Fantasy's Original Jazz Classics series in 1991.
