This is the first leader album and only analog release in 1986 by French composer/pianist Jacques Bouniard, who has been active in a wide range of fields from jazz to rock/pop since the late 1970s. The album features a drummer Joel Allouche, who has played with Italian bassist Paolo Damiani's group and the Dutch jazz group Reflexionen, and a reed player Michel Marre, who has also recorded with Archie Shepp and Mal Waldron. A3 is a pleasant contrast of flute and piano dancing lightly with a rhythm section that easily incorporates bossa rhythms, and opens with a mute trumpet solo full of floating sensation along with organic sounding percussion. The album opens with a floating solo performance by a muted trumpet accompanied by organic percussion, and then moves into a thrilling development with ethnic tabla beats in B1.
