This album was released in 1977 by James Newton, an American flutist who has recorded with many great players such as Herbie Hancock, Sam Rivers, and Anthony Davis, and has also recorded many new age-oriented solo works of his own. He is in a quartet with Anthony Davis (p), Abdul Wadud (cello), and Phillip Wilson (ds). Although this is a free jazz album, Newton's flute tone and melody already possesses an organic feeling, as in A2, in which he seems to have overdubbed his own flute, and B3, a duo with Davis' piano, and you can feel a premonition of the new age style that would develop later on. It's excellent performances.
