Released in 1978, this album as a leader is by Jan Garbarek, the singular Norwegian saxophonist and one of the leading figures of Nordic jazz, who has left behind numerous masterpieces for ECM. The bassless quartet features Bill Connors on guitar, John Taylor on piano and organ, and Jack DeJohnette on drums. On A1, Garbarek’s saxophone soars majestically over John Taylor’s organ as it gradually expands through the space. B1 is equally superb, with Garbarek’s saxophone and Connors’s guitar sounding almost as though they are gently speaking to the listener over DeJohnette’s funky, swaying drums. Throughout the album, the music possesses an exceptionally deep spirituality, drawing the listener completely into Garbarek’s unmistakable sonic world. Original German pressing in a textured sleeve.
