The son of renowned composer Maurice Jarre, French composer and synthesist Jean-Michel Jarre first made his mark in film music in the early 1970s, before releasing his groundbreaking 1976 masterpiece Oxygene—a global hit that made extensive use of synthesizers. This 1982 album documents his historic concerts in Beijing and Shanghai in 1981, the very first performances in China by a Western artist. Alongside signature works from Oxygene, Equinoxe, and Magnetic Fields, the set also includes previously unreleased compositions believed to have been created especially for these concerts. Particularly outstanding are A2 and D1, spiritual electronic pieces built on richly layered synthesizer arpeggiations—extremely highly recommended.
A2: Arpegiator
D1: Night in Shanghai
