After performing with Cecil Taylor's band in the 1970s, Jemeel Moondoc, an American saxophonist, co-founded Ensemble Muntu with William Parker, Rashid Bakr, and others. In 1977, they produced the masterpiece 'First Feeling’, and collaborated with many musicians, including Byard Lancaster and Archie Shepp. This album, released in 1983, features a sextet including Roy Campbell (trumpet), Khan Jamal (vibraphone), William Parker (bass), Dennis Charles (drums), and vocalist Ellen Christi. The title track, recorded on both sides A1 and B1, presents various developments while maintaining a groove based on R&B, making it exceptionally outstanding. Ellen Christi's scat, who is also one of the initiators of The New York City Artist's Collective, plays a vital role in the performance.
