A 1985 album by American pianist Jim McNeely, who released the leader album Rain’s Dance on the renowned Danish label SteepleChase in 1976 and later worked with Stan Getz in the 1980s and Phil Woods in the 1990s. The trio features Marc Johnson (b), who also recorded a number of outstanding works for ECM, and Adam Nussbaum (ds). The album ranges from straight-ahead post-bop to elegant contemporary jazz. Particularly recommended are A3, an adventurous, avant-leaning piece featuring the Yamaha DX-7 synthesizer, and B2, a beautifully restrained and urban-sounding performance centered on McNeely’s acoustic piano.
