Released in 1979, this album as a leader is by John Abercrombie, one of ECM’s defining guitarists and the creator of numerous masterpieces for the label. The quartet features Richie Beirach on piano, George Mraz on bass, and Peter Donald on drums. With the exception of A1, the album unfolds throughout at a remarkably restrained pace, presenting contemporary jazz that is slow-moving yet deeply absorbing. Abercrombie’s characteristically soft, slightly wet-toned electric guitar intertwines with Beirach’s piano to weave delicate melodies, creating a sound world that seems to embody the very aesthetic of ECM. Japanese pressing released as part of the Trio Jazz Mania series, with obi and insert.
