This is a 1988 leader album by the American pianist John Hicks, who collaborated with a wide range of musicians from Art Blakey, Sonny Simmons, Hank Mobley, to Pharoah Sanders, spanning from bebop to free jazz. It's a Japan-exclusive release featuring recordings from a trio session in 1985 with Walter Booker on bass and Idris Muhammad on drums, held at the Avaco Studio in Tokyo. This unique release showcases Hicks' piano artistry in a poised atmosphere, with a repertoire that includes his original scores as well as standards sung by Billie Holiday and classics by Thelonious Monk. Hicks' piano work is light yet full of allure, making for a wonderful performance that can be enjoyed in a relaxed ambiance. He stands as a formidable presence alongside Joe Bonner. Highly recommended.
