The American saxophonist, John Stubblefield, has shown his skills on many classic albums by artists around AACM such as Lester Bowie, Joseph Jarman, Maurice McIntyre and Anthony Braxton, and also played on Miles Davis' funk masterpiece "Get Up With It". This is his leader album released in 1985. The quintet is Cecil Bridgewater (tp,fh), Mulgrew Miller (p), Rufus Reid (b), and Eddie GLadden (ds). A1 is groovy with a Latin feel, A2 has a light waltz beat, and B3 has a cool tension with hidden passion. This is a hidden gem of spiritual contemporary jazz with a wonderful spiritual orientation that passes for hard bop.
