This is a masterpiece from the British saxophonist John Surman, known for his collaborations with various jazz musicians such as John McLaughlin, Alan Skidmore, and Michel Portal, and for his numerous outstanding works under his own name. It was released in 1981 and is his second album on the ECM label. This album, a duo with the familiar ECM drummer Jack Dejohnette, consists of nine tracks forming a suite. From the very beginning with the melancholic melodies characteristic of John Surman's baritone sax, and the equally distinctive minimal refrains of the synthesizer, it's an amazing journey into inner exploration. Moreover, the free-spirited session with Jack Dejohnette's aggressive drumming is also astounding. Highly recommended.
