Featured in the first edition of the guidebook obscure sound, this album was released in 1976 by Kebnekaise, the Swedish trad/folk-influenced progressive rock band. It is the group’s most strongly African-flavored work, and a classic album that prominently features the earthy percussion and vocals of Bah Hassan, the band’s only Black member. Every track is excellent, but two pieces stand out in particular: B1, where violin and guitar melodies built on distinctive scales drawn from Swedish folk music are set against striking Afro-polyrhythmic beats, and B2, a tripped-out Afro-rock track with minimal, polyrhythmic bass and percussion patterns, Bah Hassan’s Afro chants, and cosmic synthesizers and sound effects flying through the mix. Highly recommended.

A1: Doberela Woulo
B1: Bounse Na Bounse
B2: Tigerdance/Wind
