This is an extraordinarily intense album recorded in 1978 and self-released the same year by Amsterdam-based pianist and clarinetist Kees Hazevoet—who left the music scene after releasing just two albums in the 1970s—and renowned Dutch jazz drummer and multi-instrumentalist Han Bennink, who remains active today. The album features a transformative, sound-collage-style live performance where both musicians manipulate a wide range of instruments and equipment, from wind and string instruments to percussion, effects, and noise, creating an ever-shifting cacophony of dissonance and sound. Beneath the chaotic layers, there are hints of influence from the primal sounds of African tribal music. Interestingly, Kees Hazevoet abandoned music over 30 years ago to dedicate himself to zoological research, but even in this work, his playing often evokes the cries of wild animals.
