Released in 1979, this album is by American pianist Keith Jarrett, who established his reputation while still in his twenties with historic masterpieces such as Solo Concerts and The Köln Concert, and remained at the forefront of jazz for decades thereafter. Featuring Dewey Redman on tenor saxophone and percussion, Charlie Haden on bass, and Paul Motian on drums, this double album presents an extended concert performance recorded in 1976 at the Theater am Kornmarkt in Bregenz, Austria, spread across three sides of vinyl. Side A is steeped in an ethnic atmosphere, with maracas and tambourine swirling around Redman’s tenor saxophone as it traces exotic melodies. Side B unfolds into a deeply spiritual performance charged with emotion, while Side C features a three-part encore. The playing is superb throughout. A highly recommended album for listeners who appreciate Don Cherry as well. Original German pressing.
