Released in 1984, this album features a trio led by the singular jazz pianist Keith Jarrett, with Gary Peacock on bass and Jack DeJohnette on drums. A1 is an extended performance of nearly sixteen minutes, driven by Jarrett’s fluid piano, Peacock’s profound bass, and DeJohnette’s aggressive drumming. Their intensely focused and highly technical interplay unfolds with almost breathtaking tension. B1 moves into contemporary jazz with a more modern sensibility and a brighter, more expansive character. Throughout the album, the remarkable technical abilities of all three musicians are captured in ECM’s vividly three-dimensional recording, creating an almost uncanny sensation that the performance is unfolding directly in front of the listener. Original German pressing.
