A 1978 ECM album by American pianist Keith Jarrett, who had already made his name in his twenties with historic masterpieces such as Solo Concerts and The Köln Concert. The quartet features leading Nordic jazz figure Jan Garbarek (ss), along with Jon Christensen (ds) and Palle Danielsson (b), all of whom had already collaborated with Jarrett on three ECM recordings. As suggested by the title My Song and the photograph of a child used for the artwork, much of the album is filled with a gentle, intimate atmosphere that seems to reflect Jarrett’s personal emotions. At the same time, A1, B2, and B3 carry a subtly ethnic, almost folk-like quality—perhaps a reflection of the distinctly Nordic sensibilities of the other musicians. Christensen’s drumming in particular has a strikingly primal character.
