Released in 1985, this album is by Keith Jarrett, one of ECM’s defining pianists and unquestionably one of the greatest pianists in history. It is the second installment in the series devoted to jazz standards by Jarrett’s trio with Gary Peacock on bass and Jack DeJohnette on drums. The group began performing together in 1983 and also toured Japan in 1985. The album opens with Jarrett’s original composition A1, followed by five celebrated standards that even listeners without a deep knowledge of jazz will probably have encountered somewhere before. The extraordinary rapport between these three musicians is evident throughout, resulting in a succession of truly exquisite performances. Japanese pressing manufactured by Polydor. Japanese ECM pressings from this period sound exceptionally good, reflecting the dedication and care of the production team.
