Released in 1986, this album captures Keith Jarrett—one of ECM’s defining pianists and unquestionably one of the greatest pianists in history—performing jazz standards with his two most trusted musical partners, Gary Peacock (b) and Jack DeJohnette (ds). The trio grew out of the two acclaimed albums Standards, Vol. 1 and Standards, Vol. 2, and this recording documents their 1985 concert at the Palais des Congrès in Paris, France. From A1, a standard also featured in Miles Davis’s repertoire, to B3, composed by Nat Adderley and also known through performances by Cannonball Adderley and others, the album offers a series of exquisite performances in which the trio transforms familiar jazz standards into something even more dramatic and expressive.
