An American multi-instrumentalist, Ken McIntyre, who left behind masterpieces from the early '60s both with his own groups and through his involvement in ensembles such as The Jazz Composer’s Orchestra, Bill Dixon 7-Tette, and Beaver Harris’s 360 Degree Music Experience, released this leader album in 1974 through the prestigious Danish label SteepleChase. The album was recorded that same year at a studio in Copenhagen with a quartet featuring Kenny Drew (p), Bo Stief (b), and Alex Riel (ds). In addition to McIntyre's original compositions, the album includes pieces by Thelonious Monk, Sonny Rollins, and jazz standards, all performed with consistently excellent musicianship. Every track is outstanding, but particularly notable are the spiritually charged jazz piece A3, where aggressive rhythms and soaring flute create a magnificent combination, and B2, an elegant interpretation of John Coltrane’s iconic composition "Naima."
