American saxophonist Keshavan Maslak, who also participated in Burton Breene's "Structures" and "Variations on a Coffee Machine," released a leader album in 1983. The quartet features Misha Mengelberg (bass), John Lindeberg (bass), and Charles Moffett (drums), with Ray Anderson (trombone) guesting on one track. Maslak, known for his intense blowing reminiscent of Gato Barbieri, shines particularly on track A2, which unfolds dramatically and mystically over a minimal, shuffling waltz beat. Track B2, a moody blues-jazz piece with a swaying adult vibe, is highly recommended. This album was reissued by Affinity in the UK in 1988.
A2: You’ll Love It
B2: Big Heart
