Released in 1985 on Italy’s Soul Note label, this album is by jazz singer Kim Parker, daughter of musician Chan Parker — Charlie Parker’s common-law wife, who later married Phil Woods. Backed by a trio featuring Mal Waldron on piano, Isla Eckinger on bass, and Ed Thigpen on drums, Parker performs a program of standards and jazz classics throughout. Highlights include A4, with its Brazilian-flavored arrangement, light groove, and floating vocal delivery, and B3 by Clare Fischer, which develops from an emotional ballad into a bossa-tinged rhythm. It is a fine work that fully brings out the distinctive charm of Parker’s voice. Waldron’s restrained, tension-filled playing is also excellent.
A4: Singing Dansing (On My Way)
B3: Wistful Samba
