Featured in the first edition of the guidebook Obscure Sound. A 1987 album by Kip Hanrahan, one of the key figures associated with New York’s loft-jazz scene of the 1980s. Drawing on his wide-ranging musical connections, the album features an extensive cast of musicians from diverse backgrounds. Highlights include A2, a cool Afro-Latin jazz track driven by understated male vocals, flurries of Latin percussion, and busy, highly detailed drumming, as well as B2, where high-register falsetto vocals and a polished, Hall & Oates-like arrangement create a distinctly adult-oriented atmosphere. As always, Hanrahan delivers contemporary music of an exceptionally high standard. His records are consistently outstanding.
