Mandinka Music : Kora Music and Songs from the Gambia
Virgin Records (UK) 1982
VX 1006 (LP)
sleeve : EX-(SOC, very slightly dirts.)
media : EX/EX-(side B has some light surface noises.)
The album was released in 1982 by the Konte Family, which consists of Alhaji Bai Konte, one of the most famous kora players in Gambia, a West African country located on the coastline of the Pacific Ocean, his son Dembo Konte, and Malamini Jabarteh, a member of The Gambia National Troupe. It features the traditional ensemble and singing of the kora, a type of double harp played by the Mandinka people who live in West Africa. The soft and delicate sound of the kora is so beautiful that it mixes with simple and indigenous chants and invites you to a very comfortable world. The whole piece is excellent.
