A 1986 album by the Kronos Quartet, the internationally acclaimed string quartet consisting of David Harrington (violin), John Sherba (violin), Hank Dutt (viola), and Joan Jeanrenaud (cello), widely known for their performances of works by Steve Reich and other contemporary composers. This album is devoted entirely to compositions by jazz pianist Bill Evans and features bassist Eddie Gomez, who also played in Evans’ own group, along with guitarist Jim Hall. Through the Kronos Quartet’s distinctive and adventurous approach and Tom Darter’s superb arrangements, Evans’ compositions are beautifully transformed into chamber music while retaining their lyrical essence. Highly recommended from start to finish. Fans of ECM should definitely check this one out.
