This is the debut leader album released in 1986 by Swedish bassist Lars Danielsson, who has participated in numerous notable sessions, including those with groups like Lars Jansson Trio, Time Unit, and Mwendo Dawa. In this quartet project featuring fellow countryman and renowned player Bobo Stenson (p), Jon Christensen (dr), and American reed player David Liebman, the album showcases sophisticated contemporary jazz ranging from intense post-bop to urban slow jazz, with superb interplay filled with tension. However, the highlight is the introduction of synthesizers in two tracks on the B-side. The progressive jazz-rock B1 features Liebman's remarkable performance over an aggressive rhythm section, while the atmospheric jazz B2 sees soprano saxophone melodies floating alongside soft synth pads and acoustic piano. Both tracks are highly recommended for fans of ECM works by Weberhard Weber, Reiner Bruninghaus, David Torn, and others. Overall, this album is a must-listen.
