The debut leader album by American-born French pianist Laurent De Wilde, who first came to prominence as a member of trumpeter Eddie Henderson’s group, released in 1988. Recorded in a quintet setting with Eddie Henderson on trumpet and flugelhorn, Ralph Moore on tenor and soprano saxophones, Ira Coleman on bass, and Billy Hart on drums. Highlights include A2, which floats moodily with a rich blues feeling, and B1, where bright piano lines and warm saxophone phrases weave comfortably around a light Brazilian rhythm. While rooted in an orthodox jazz approach, the refined sense of the participating musicians and their superb interplay make for an exceptionally pleasant and consistently engaging performance throughout.

A2: Odd and Blue
B1: Brooklyn, Brazil
