This is a 1996 album by the American saxophonist Lee Konitz, who had been active in the forefront from the early 1950s to the 2000s. It is a tribute to Billie Holiday, one of the top jazz singers loved alongside Sarah Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald. The album features elegant and romantic renditions of Holiday's iconic songs, with a prominent string section arranged by Daniel Schynder. Konitz, at the age of 69, delivers a saxophone performance filled with matured melancholy and tenderness, making it truly exceptional. The seamless collaboration with the gentle string ensemble is exquisite. I consider it a masterpiece. The album also boasts excellent audio quality with an audiophile specification.
