This is the 1967 leader album by the prematurely talented American trumpeter Lee Morgan, who left a lasting legacy with legendary sessions for groups such as Dizzy Gillespie, John Coltrane, and Art Blakey. Morgan, known for his contributions to classics like "The Sidewinder" in 1963, passed away at the young age of 32 in 1972. The album features a quintet with Joe Henderson on tenor sax, McCoy Tyner on piano, Bob Cranshaw on bass, and Billy Higgins on drums. For tracks A3 and B1, the lineup expands to include Ernie Royal on trumpet, Tom McIntosh on trombone, Jim Buffington on French horn, Phil Woods on alto sax and flute, Wayne Shorter on tenor sax, Danny Bank on baritone sax, flute, and bass clarinet, and Philly Joe Jones on drums. Morgan's original composition A2 stands out with its uplifting and groovy feel, while B1 showcases an emotional rendition of a song from the 1960s musical "Fiddler on the Roof." The album also includes a cover of The Beatles' classic "Yesterday."
