Lee Morgan’s 1964 Blue Note masterpiece and one of the label’s most iconic albums. Featuring an outstanding lineup of Joe Henderson, Barry Harris, Bob Cranshaw, and Billy Higgins, it became his biggest hit, blending the heat of hard bop with a funky rhythmic drive. The title track is a killer tune, with its light 8-beat groove and memorable horn riff coming together to create an appeal that also touches on jazz-rock and soul jazz. Throughout the album, the performances unfold with an urban sense of tension and a bluesy, elastic feel. Japanese pressing released by King Records in 1977. Includes insert.
