A 1977 leader album by Swedish saxophonist Lennart Åberg, who appeared on numerous outstanding Nordic ethno-jazz recordings with groups such as Rena Rama and Oriental Wind. The album is conceived as a jazz orchestra work and brings together an impressive cast of Nordic jazz musicians, including Okay Temiz (perc), Bobo Stenson (p), Palle Danielsson (b), Jon Christensen (ds), and Leroy Lowe (ds). From powerful, high-velocity modal jazz to swinging big-band pieces with a sophisticated, adult atmosphere, the performances are consistently superb throughout. The closing track B3 is especially remarkable: an almost psychedelic big-band performance charged with a spirituality that recalls John Coltrane and Archie Shepp. Absolutely incredible playing. Original German pressing.
