Originally formed in 1962 in Strasbourg, the northeastern French city facing the Rhine, Les Percussions de Strasbourg is a legendary percussion ensemble that remained active for over six decades and left behind countless outstanding recordings. This album was first issued in 1967 as part of the striking Prospective 21° siècle series, notable for its memorable silver-print artwork with black typography. Included here are the bizarre poetry-reading piece “Epervier de te Faiblesse” by the eccentric Slovenian composer Milan Stibilj, “Alternances” by Japanese composer Makoto Shinohara with its distinctive sense of space and floating atmosphere, and the 20-minute long-form work “Signalement” by Dutch composer Peter Schat. This is the Japanese pressing released in 1976.
