Les Percussions de Strasbourg, formed in 1962 in Strasbourg, a city on the Rhine River in northeastern France, has been active for 60 years and has left behind a number of classic albums with silver prints and striking black typography on the cover. This album was released in 1969. The album features "Archipel" by Andre Boucourechliev, a Bulgarian composer who was involved in avant-garde artistic activities with John Cage and others. The music develops according to the free choices of the performers, and the performance is based on a free conception of a culmination of works using chance music and chance operations.
