A double album released in 1983 by trumpeter Lester Bowie of the Art Ensemble of Chicago, a group synonymous with African-inspired avant-jazz. This album was dedicated to the memory of his mother. The first disc is a band-style release featuring Ari Brown (ts,ss), Art Matthews (p), Fred Williams (b), Phillip Wilson (ds), Fontella Bass (vo) and David Peaston (vo). It is a collection of high quality jazz that follows in the footsteps of Lester Bowie's roots, ranging from warm New Orleans style jazz to free jazz. The second disc features a number of abstract trumpet solos by Lester Bowie. There's also some bad-ass experimental music sounds with avant-garde techniques, such as sticking the trumpet in water to make bubbling sounds and sticking the piano inside the body of a grand piano. The whole album is great. Original German pressing.
